The Glénat group was founded in 1969 by Jacques Glénat, a man with a passion for comic books, adventure, extreme sports, the sea and mountains ... He built up his company in his own image. Thanks to the founder's flair, Glénat became a name to be conjured with not only in France but also throughout Europe. Today publishing constitutes the main part of the group's operations, with comic books taking the lion's share with prestigious labels like Vents d'Ouest and Zenda.

Six collections make up the core of Glénat’s production : Grafica, which puts aestheticism and fiction to the fore ; Vécu, devoted to historical comic strip ; Tchô! which brings a young generation of authors together round comic strip aimed at youth ; Bulle Noire, reserved for whodunits ; Loge noire, devoted to esoteric adventure ; Carrément BD, a new collection which rethinks the norms of traditional comic strip. But, equally, Glénat’s name has become synonymous with Manga : the first publisher to have implanted this style in France, Glénat is today no. 1 in this field.

Another fast-expanding sector consists of books about the sea and mountains under the Glénat Livres label; the Atlas catalog, a major element in the quality book market; and Le Chasse-Marée for books about the sea. Finally, as a logical extension of these two sectors, the press remains an indissociable element in publishing. The group publishes several magazines devoted to comic books (Vécu, Tchô!) and also to alpine sports (among others Ski Français, Vertical, Alpinisme, Randonné and Aerial).

Today the Glénat Group is the leading independant player in comic strip in Europe and France (with almost 25% of the comic strip market in 2003) and the leading publisher in Europe of books about mountains. The group's operations are in constant expansion. Find out more about the history of our development at GROUP GLÉNAT
