The years of growth
The 1990s were a period of growth and restructuring for the Glénat Group. In the field of
comic strip new collections appeared in the Glénat catalogue (Grafica, Zenda, Tchô !…)
and the company bought the publishing house Vents d’Ouest from Hatier. Finally, from
1991, a revolutionary new comic strip appeared in the catalogue : the Manga. Alongside
comic strip, Glénat continued its development into Books by licensing in 1999 the Book
activities of the publisher Atlas.
As for the Press division, this continued to structure itself into the logical extension of
the publishing axes of Books: magazines devoted to youth comic strip and Mountain
publications.
The Group continued to grow, and in consequence optimise
its means : distribution was entrusted to Hachette, thus
opening the way to growth in the supermarkets. The
company’s capital structure was reorganised, with a
strengthening of the majority control by the founding
family Glénat, reinforcing the Group’s independence.
