Glénat
Is it :
1) a trade mark ?
2) a man, passionate about comic strip, who has become a publisher?
3) a European business?
4) a type of publishing house in a sound financial situation?
5) a publisher bringing together books and comic strip?
6) a grouping of women and men passionate about comic strip, the
seas and mountains?
7) a leader in each of its specialist areas?
The correct answer to each question is YES, but above all, GLENAT is
a spirit which allows all these things to live and to develop.
During its existence over a period of 40 years, in an environment of
debates, successes, setbacks, new starts and audacity, fresh ways of
seeing, of feeling and acting are prominent, giving a family feeling to
those who share a passion, an occupation, conviviality and loyalty.
• A passion : passion for publishing, for mountains, for winter sports,
for comic strip or for the sea. An infectious passion, since
it makes people live and makes the world move.
• An occupation : that of a publisher who feeds on the desire to convey
words, pictures, dreams... through an object - something between a
servant, a tool or a treasure - which one opens, looks at, leafs through,
holds on to and consults. A publisher’s vocation is to enjoy putting
something which has touched and excited us into other people’s
hands, for them to share.
• Conviviality : that of comic strip, but also of mountains of the workplace...
a sort of brotherhood, working and living together and wanting
to create a moment of pleasure during work, recreation, pressing
needs and laughter.
• Loyalty : to readers, naturally, but also to authors since a publisher
is to some extent a forger of alliances, a mediator who makes meetings
between readers and authors possible, who furthers exchanges
between both parties, who establishes trust. But, on a continuing
basis, new authors and new readers must be discovered, and bridges
built, since loyalty is only a pleasure if it is an everyday happening.
Like a growing being, each stage of growth gives a better understanding
of what he is, in order to choose better what he wants to be.
After thirty five years, from 1969 to 2007, the GLENAT company is
still growing strongly...
